Research Methods - A New Snow Fence Design
Trapping snowdrifts the size of those encountered along the I-80 route required
tall snow fences--fences that could be built quickly, adapted to rolling
terrain, fences that would last for years with minimum maintenance. In
consultation with Ron Tabler, engineers of the Wyoming Highway Department (now
the Department of Transportation) developed a standard design, which can be
built 6 to 14 ft high. Fences in the photos are 14-footers.
