Wyoming Monthly Climatology
June 2004

Statewide Summary

Wyoming, June 2004 on average experienced cooler and significantly wetter and drier conditions depending on where you live. Average temperatures ranged from 6 degrees F below normal over portions of Hot Springs County to 2 degrees F above normal over a portions of extreme western Wyoming. Precipitation was much below normal northward from a line cutting diagonally from SE to NW Wyoming and much above normal south of this line. Soil moisture at the end of June revealed dryness over the eastern third of the state, especially over extreme NE Wyoming.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, May 28, temperatures were mostly below normal. Temperatures ranged from 18.6 degrees below normal in Deaver to 0.9 degrees above normal in Archer. The highest temperature was 84 degrees in Torrington and the lowest temperature was 21 degrees in Big Piney. At least a trace of precipitation was reported at all stations but all stations reported below normal amounts except in the West where above normal amounts were reported. Most stations reported less than 0.40 inch for the week. The most precipitation fell in Afton with 2.00 inches, Jackson with 0.76 inch, and Big Piney with 0.54 inch.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, June 4, temperatures averaged mostly below normal, although record heat arrived in some areas on the weekend. Temperatures ranged from 4.6 degrees below normal in Recluse to 1.9 degrees above normal in Chugwater. The highest temperature was 103 degrees in Chugwater and the lowest temperature was 24 degrees in Big Piney and Saratoga. At least a trace of precipitation was reported at most stations but all stations again received below normal amounts. All stations reported less than 0.50 inch for the week. The most precipitation fell in Sundance with 0.49 inch, Newcastle with 0.48 inch, and Jackson with 0.44 inch.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, June 11, temperatures averaged above normal. Temperatures ranged from 0.3 degrees above normal in Sundance to 8.4 degrees above normal in Chugwater. The highest temperature was 102 degrees in Torrington and the lowest temperature was 32 degrees at Unita County AP and Afton. Almost all stations reported at least a trace of precipitation, with about a half inch or better across the northern and western parts of the State. Nearly all stations again received below normal amounts. The most precipitation fell in Afton with 1.62 inches, Cody with 0.60 inch, and Sheridan with 0.60 inch.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, June 18, temperatures averaged mostly below normal. Temperatures ranged from 8.4 degrees below normal in Worland to 2.7 degrees above normal in Jackson. The highest temperature was 92 degrees in Torrington and Wheatland, while the lowest temperature was 32 degrees in Afton. Almost all stations reported precipitation with most stations in the North receiving below normal amounts and most in the South receiving above normal amounts. The most precipitation fell in Laramie with 1.26 inches, Cheyenne with 1.14 inches, and Big Piney with 1.01 inches.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, June 25, temperatures averaged mostly below normal for the second week in a row. Temperatures ranged from 13.9 degrees below normal in Recluse to 1.3 degrees above normal in Jackson. The highest temperature was 86 degrees in Greybull, while the lowest temperature was 30 degrees in Recluse. Almost all stations reported precipitation with most stations in the West and South receiving above normal amounts and most in the North receiving below normal amounts. The most precipitation fell in Wheatland with 1.21 inches, Archer with 1.14 inches, and Chugwater with 1.07 inches. By the end of June impressive monthly rainfall totals were recorded over SE and NW Wyoming.

Cheyenne

The average temperature in June was 60.5°F. This is 1.0°F below normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 94°F on the 7th (record for the day) and the minimum of 36°F occurred on the 1st. Precipitation total of 3.39 inches is 160 percent of normal. Record daily precipitation of 0.61 inch was set on the 30th. Snowfall totaled only a trace during the month.

    Laramie

    The average temperature in June was 55.1°F. This is 2.0°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 87°F on the 6th (daily record) and 7th (tied daily record) and the minimum for the month was 31°F occurring on the 1st and 2nd. Precipitation total of 2.65 inches is 199 percent of normal.

    Rawlins

    The average temperature in June was 59.0°F. This is 2.3°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 88°F on the 7th (daily record) and the minimum for the month was 35°F occurring on the 22nd. Precipitation total of 1.81 inches is 195 percent of normal. Record daily precipitation of 0.55 inch was set on the 30th.

    Rock Springs

    The average temperature in June was 59.7°F. This is 0.1°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 85°F on the 6th and the minimum for the month was 38°F occurring on the 10th and 17th. Precipitation total of 1.25 inches is 184 percent of normal.

    Evanston

    The average temperature in June was 57.9°F. This is 2.0°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 81°F on the 3rd and the minimum for the month was 32°F occurring on the 10th. Precipitation total of 2.15 inches is 224 percent of normal.

    Big Piney

    The average temperature in June was 53.8°F. This is 1.2°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 80°F on the 5thand 8th and the minimum for the month was 25°F occurring on the 1st. Precipitation total of 3.16 inches is 439 percent of normal.

    Lander

    The average temperature in June was 61.1°F. This is 2.6°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 86°F on the 6th and 7th and the minimum for the month was 40°F occurring on the 1st. Precipitation total of 1.68 inches is 146 percent of normal.

    Riverton

    The average temperature in June was 62.0°F. This is 1.7°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 89°F on the 6th and the minimum for the month of 36°F occurred on the 1st. Precipitation total of 1.23 inches is 108 percent of normal.

    Worland

    The average temperature in June was 62.6°F. This is 4.5°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 91°F on the 6th and the minimum for the month of 39°F occurred on the 2nd. Precipitation total of 0.42 inch is 37 percent of normal.

    Sheridan

    The average temperature in June was 60.6°F. This is 1.0°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 94°F on the 6th and the minimum for the month of 34°F occurred on the 2nd. Precipitation total of 1.16 inches is 57 percent of normal.

    Casper

    The average temperature in June was 60.0°F. This is 2.7°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 92°F on the 6th and the minimum for the month of 31°F occurred on the 1st. Precipitation total of 0.54 inch is 38 percent of normal.

    Torrington

    The average temperature in June was 64.3°F. This is 2.0°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 102°F on the 6th (daily record) and the minimum for the month of 38°F occurred on the 1st. Precipitation total of 0.90 inch is 43 percent of normal.
