September 2003
Statewide Summary
Temperatures for the month of September were near normal over most of Wyoming. Average temperatures ranged from 3 degrees below normal over Hot Springs County to 3 degrees above normal over the SW Wyoming. Precipitation for the month of September was highly variable across the state. The heaviest moisture occurred across NE to south central WY (>150 percent) with amounts <50 percent of normal over the western third of the state. Soil moisture showed the driest areas remaining in SW Wyoming. However, at Torrington in eastern Wyoming, soil moisture, at all levels, has remainded basically unchanged during the month.
Cheyenne
The average temperature in September was 56.4°F. This is 0.2°F below normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 86°F on the 5th. The minimum of 30°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 1.24 inches is 90 percent of normal. A total of 1.4 inches of snow fell during the month and is 0.2 inch below normal.

Laramie
The average temperature in September was 51.2°F. This is 1.7°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 80°F on the 5th. The minimum for the month was 19°F that occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.76 inch is 77 percent of normal . Snowfall totaled 2.2 inches (all falling on the 17th).
Rawlins
The average temperature in September was 54.1°F. This is 2.8°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 81°F on the 4th. The minimum for the month was 21°F on the 18th. Precipitation total of 1.08 inches is 131 percent of normal.
Rock Springs
The average temperature in September was 57.1°F. This is 2.2°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 82°F on the 4th. The minimum of 28°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.71 inch is 82 percent of normal. Snowfall totalled 0.5 inch for the month.
Evanston
The average temperature in September was 55.6°F. This is 2.8°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 81°F on the 4th. The minimum of 25°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.53 inch is 42 percent of normal.
Big Piney
The average temperature in September was 50.3°F. This is 1.8°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 80°F on the 4th. The minimum of 16°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.35 inch is 43 percent of normal.
Lander
The average temperature in September was 56.8°F. This is 1.9°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 86°F on the 4th. The minimum for the month of 24°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 1.06 inches is 93 percent of normal (0.79 inch fell on the 17th). For 2003, 8.46 inches of precipitation fell (81 percent of normal). Snowfall totalled 5.4 inches and represents 180 percent of the September average.

Riverton
The average temperature in September was 56.7°F. This is 0.6°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 85°F on the 4th. The minimum for the month of 28°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.69 inch is 78 percent of normal (0.31 fell on the 17th). For 2003, 7.45 inches of precipitation fell (106 percent of normal). Snowfall totalled 1.5 inches and represents 214 percent of snow for September.
Sheridan
The average temperature in September was 56.8°F. This is 0.3°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 93°F on the 4th and the minimum for the month of 29°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 1.28 inches is 93 percent of normal.

Casper
The average temperature in September was 55.3°F. This is 2.3°F cooler than normal (11th coolest September since 1940). The maximum temperature for the month was 88°F on the 5th. The minimum for the month of 29°F occurred on the 28th. Precipitation total of 1.38 inches is 140 percent of normal (13th wettest on record with 0.75 inch falling on the 17th). Snowfall totalled 2.5 inches, all falling on the 17th.

Torrington
The average temperature in September was 58.8°F. This is 1.0°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 92°F on the 5th. The minimum for the month of 32°F occurred on the 19th. Precipitation total of 0.86 inch is 68 percent of normal. Snowfall totalled 0.5 inch for the month.
