Wyoming Monthly Climatology
November 2003

Statewide Summary

Temperatures for the month of November were well below normal over most of the northwestern half of Wyoming. Average temperatures ranged from 10 degrees below normal in Big Piney to 1 degrees above normal in Torrington. Precipitation for the month of November was quite variable across the state. The heaviest moisture occurred across well above normal >150 percent over parts of Park, Platte, and Hot Springs Counties and the southwest corner of Wyoming with amounts <5 percent of normal over parts of eastern Park and central Fremont Counties. Soil moisture showed the driest areas remaining over Sweetwater County. At Torrington in eastern Wyoming, soil moisture, at all levels, has become nearly bone dry at 20 and 40 inch depths. The drought over Wyoming has remained essentially unchanged during November except for some slight improvements over extreme western Wyoming and some slight worsening over extreme southeast Wyoming.

Cheyenne

The average temperature in November was 33.3°F. This is exactly normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 63°F on the 20th and the minimum of 1°F occurred on the 22nd and 23rd. Precipitation total of 0.46 inch is 72 percent of normal. A total of 9.8 inches of snow fell during the month and is 138 percent of the long term mean. Between the 22nd and 23rd, 8.8 inches of snow fell.

    Laramie

    The average temperature in November was 27.0°F. This is 1.4°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 56°F on the 20th and the minimum for the month was -18°F occurring on the 23rd (record for the day). Another record low was tied on the 22nd (-9°F). Precipitation total of 0.59 inch is 92 percent of normal. Snowfall totaled 16.5 inches and is 246 percent of the long term average.

    Rawlins

    The average temperature in November was 25.2°F. This is 6.3°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 48°F on the 19th and the minimum for the month was -4°F on the 22nd. Precipitation total of 1.05 inches is 162 percent of normal. Snowfall totaled 12.0 inches and is 156 percent of the long term average.

    Rock Springs

    The average temperature in November was 25.0°F. This is 3.8°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 51°F on the 20th and the minimum of 1°F occurred on the 7th. Precipitation total of 0.19 inch is 30 percent of normal. Snowfall totalled 4.3 inches and is 77 percent of the long term average.

    Evanston

    The average temperature in November was 24.1°F. This is 4.8°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 46°F on the 19th and the minimum of -5°F occurred on the 23rd. Precipitation total of 1.01 inches is 120 percent of normal. Snowfall totaled 25.2 inches and is 371 percent of the long term average and is the 2nd greatest November total since 1898. The record is held by November 1994 (26.1 inches).

    Big Piney

    The average temperature in November was 12.6°F. This is 10.5°F colder than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 40°F on the 20th and the minimum of -17°F occurred on the 23rd. Precipitation total of 0.13 inch is 22 percent of normal. Snowfal totaled 7.0 inches and is 167 percent of the long term average.

    Lander

    The average temperature in November was 24.4°F. This is 5.9°F colder than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 58°F on the 19th and the minimum for the month of 1°F occurred on the 7th. Precipitation total of 0.07 inch is 7 percent of normal. Snowfall totalled 2.7 inches and represents 19 percent of the long term average.

    Riverton

    The average temperature in November was 24.0°F. This is 4.3°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 59°F on the 19th and the minimum for the month of -4°F occurred on the 6th. Precipitation total of 0.05 inch is 11 percent of normal. Snowfall totaled 2.0 inches and is 38 percent of the long term average.

    Worland

    The average temperature in November was 24.7°F. This is 8.4°F colder than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 64°F on the 19th (record for the day) and the minimum for the month of -17°F occurred on the 23rd. Record lows occurred on the 5th (2°F), 6th (4°F), 7th (5°F), and 8th (5°F). Precipitation total of 0.19 inch is 56 percent of normal. Snowfall totaled 4.9 inches and is 109 percent of the long term average.

    Sheridan

    The average temperature in November was 28.0°F. This is 3.0°F cooler than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 70°F on the 19th (record for the day) and the minimum for the month of -6°F occurred on the 22nd. Precipitation total of 0.64 inch is 80 percent of normal. Snowfall totaled 10.5 inches and is 124 percent of the long term average.

    Casper

    The average temperature in November was 29.5°F. This is 2.5°F cooler than normal and represented the 12th coldest November since 1940. The maximum temperature for the month was 60°F on the 19th and the minimum for the month of -9°F occurred on the 5th (record for the day). Precipitation total of 0.30 inch is 37 percent of normal and represented the 11th driest November since 1940. Snowfall totalled 5.2 inches and is 50 percent of the long term average.

    Torrington

    The average temperature in November was 34.5°F. This is 0.6°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 69°F on the 20th and the minimum for the month of 3°F occurred on the 23rd. Precipitation total of 0.61 inch is 107 percent of normal. Snowfall totalled 6.9 inches and is 157 percent of the long term average.
