Wind-blown Snow as a Water Resource
Research History
Research Methods - Building Small-scale Models
As soon as Snowman Jairell saw how well the models simulated full-scale
snowdrifts, he asked his wife to sew moosehide patches on the knees of his
insulated coveralls. Then he began building models for snowdrift
research--model snow fences, then buildings, shelterbelts, pit reservoirs,
wind shelters, coal trains....
Models must be strong, to withstand repeated burial and removal from snowdrifts.
Accurate details of model geometry are critical to accurate snowdrift scaling
(Jairell and Schmidt, 1987).
