Wyoming's Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP)
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) has developed a
Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP). For each public water system
which chooses to participate, the WDEQ will:
- Determine the boundaries of the area from which public water
systems receive their drinking water.
- Inventory potential sources of contamination within these areas.
- Determine the susceptibility of the public water systems to potential
sources of contamination.
- Make the assessments available to the public.
The proposed SWAP was submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency on February 8, 1999 and is currently under review for approval.
During May and June, 1999, the WDEQ sent SWAP application forms to all
public water systems in Wyoming. Currently, over 250 public water systems
want to have their water systems assessed.
